EA gets Rory

EA gets Rory

After over 15 years as top dog in virtual golf EA has decided to replace Tiger Woods from the cover of the next iteration of PGA Golf. Rory Mcllroy is the man who has been tapped by EA to bring golf onto the PS4 and Xbox One and as far as golfers go, he is the man of the moment. Current world number 1, Mcllroy seems to be the obvious choice to step into Tiger’s massive shoes, so good on EA for going through the rigmarole of acquiring his signature.

The new game is due in June and is being built in the Frostbite 3 engine so it is sure to be spectacular. EA have promised the return of Fantasy courses, some of the world’s best known golfing locations and zero loading times while playing. Apparently some new fangled technology allows EA to cache the entire course so once you start a round there is no loading between holes. It will be interesting to see if the game lives up to its pedigree (after all the Tiger Woods games were virtual golfing’s number 1) especially after a year off. Let’s hope this sport game is more FIFA and less NBA LIVE.
