This time of year is basically Christmas for gamers. News, reveals, surprises and teases all appear during E3 that get players hyped for the next wave of games coming to their favourite system. Here at Player2 we thought it would be fun to look at the upcoming E3 and make some predictions as to what we will see coming. So Matt, Stevie, Adam, Stephen and Jenn sat down and thought about what we will see, what we might see and what would be nice to see. We will be doing one predictions article per conference in the lead up to E3. For our final entry it is Square Enix’s time to shine
E3 Predictions 2015 – Square Enix
Stephen del Prado
Safe Bet
A sombre affair, Square is deeply disappointed with pre-order numbers for Xbox One timed exclusive Rise of the Tomb Raider. They suggest fans buy at least 3 copies in order to meet their projections.
Fairly Likely
Final Fantasy XV is given a Ground Zeroes-esque $40 demo set for release in 2016, allowing for further delays on the game proper.
Wishful Thinking
Kingdom Hearts 3 will release in late 2016, now featuring Pixar worlds and, through heavy retconning, a story that makes sense. They also place a clause in Nomura’s contract forbidding him from putting more than one zipper on a character outfit at a time.
Stevie McDonald
Safe bet
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided – Unlike Adam Jensen, everybody asked for this, and so it’s confirmed: Human Revolution will be getting a sequel. And if you thought I wouldn’t go for the cheap, obvious joke, you clearly need to read more of my writing.
Fairly likely
FFXV – Progress on this title has been slow but steady since it was officially titled “XV” at 2013’s E3. After keeping their lips sealed last year, I wouldn’t be surprised if Square will want to update everybody on its progress, especially now that the demo is available.
Wishful Thinking
Gritty Gex reboot – I’ve used the Bond analogy before and I’m going to do it again. From my vague memories of playing Gex games as a kid, I remember his character being all the best/worst parts of Moore and Brosnan’s Bond mashed together. How hilarious would it be to see a Daniel Craig-style Gex?! Am I right?
Jenn Christodoulou
Safe Bet
Final Fantasy 15- We saw the demo with the release of Final Fantasy Type 0, and we’ve seen various trailers and screenshots… but we want more. Personally, I’d like the announcement of JUST ONE GODDAMN PLAYABLE FEMALE CHARACTER, but since that won’t be happening, I’d like more of everything we’ve seen so far.
Fairly Likely
Just Cause 3 and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided- these are two very big titles for Square that they will surely want to show off this year. We know quite a bit about what’s going on with both these games, but like all information hungry gamers, we want more. Give us all of the things.
Wishful Thinking
Final Fantasy 7 remake- I know it’s not happening. I know there a bunch of logical reasons as to why it’s not happening, but I live in eternal hope. As do a bunch of other Final Fantasy fan girls and boys.
Adam Rorke
Safe Bet
Final Fantasy 15 – When I first saw a trailer for this new title I immediately got excited, finally a FF game that I’m looking forward to! Then sadly, a delay notice and … nothing. Lets face it, Square aren’t the best at marketing or knowing their crowd or setting realistic sales figures … but this one is all but assured if they’re expecting to release this title around Christmas.
Fairly Likely
New Tomb Raider – Since its successful reboot on the 360 and PS3, I’ve been praying to get a sequel that was just as good. We know they’re already working hard on it, we know MS have a timed exclusive … what we don’t have is a trailer or any other relevant information. Due to its popularity, I expect to see it at this years E3.
Wishful Thinking
Final Fantasy 7 Remake – HAHAHAHA who am I kidding?!
Matt Hewson
Safe Bet
We are going to get some explosions, planes crashing into buildings, grappling hooks used as weapons and all round chaos. Just Cause is in the house! I fully anticipate playing this game for 100 hours and never finishing it, just like I did with JC2. I expect JC to be a big part of the Square conference.
Fairly Likely
Deus Ex will have a presence there is no doubt but it would be nice to get a release date for Adam Jensen’s next adventure. The last game was a cracker (especially after the director’s cut fixed the boss battles) so I fully expect this one to be just as good. I am getting my foil hat ready for all the conspiracy riddled gameplay ahead.
Wishful Thinking
If Square could do one thing to win E3 for me it would be to announce Sleeping Dogs 2. Something about the first just clicked with me. Its blend of GTA’s open world, top notch story and chop socky action was pitch perfect and I would love to see what happens to Wei Shen and Co in a second installment.
Other Predictions: Microsoft – Sony – Nintendo – EA – Ubisoft – Bethesda
