Monthly Grab Bag – August 2015
Xbox Games with Gold
Xbox have some great games on offer this month with a couple of under appreciated post-apocalyptic shooters, a cult stealth franchise and a top down survival shooter up for grabs. On the Xbox one the first half of the month sees Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeros available. This small Metal Gear adventure is a great stealth experience and is sure keep fans of the venerable series happy. For the second half of the month the top down survival/shooter How to Survive: Storm Warning edition. This game sees players stranded on a zombie infested island with a need to craft better weapons and equipment to survive.
360 owners are in for a real treat with both Metro games making the list. Metro: 2033 will be available in the first half of the month and Metro: Last Light in the second. These games are moody, atmospheric and criminally underplayed. The games sees players take the role of Artyom, an apocalypse survivor living in the sewers and subway tunnels of a destroyed Moscow. Tight story and an amazingly realized world make these game must play experiences and should be on everyone’s download list.
Playstation Plus
This month Sony is offering a wide variety of game types for all three of its systems. The Playstation 4 is getting the isometric adventure game Lara Croft and The Temple of Osiris, Limbo, Sound Shapes and Stealth Inc 2. The Temple of Osiris is a fun little Tomb Raider adventure that is better with friends. Limbo is the classic indie platformer that sees a small boy trying to escape a black and white world of horror. Sound Shapes, which will also be available on the PS3 and Vita, is a great puzzle experience and Stealth Inc 2 (Also on PS3 and Vita) is a fun little indie platform game that see players guiding clones out of an experimental science lab.
The PS3 is also getting God of War Ascension, Kratos’ last adventure (though it is a prequel) and while it isn’t quite as good as the excellent God of War 3 it is certainly a fun beat em up adventure through mythical Greece. The final game Castlestorm is for both the Vita and PS3 and is a physics based tower defence, beat em up hybrid that is perfect for short burst play.
So what are your thoughts on the freebies for this month? Great additions to your collections or a little disappointing? Let us know if the comments.
