The Most Anticipated Platformers of 2020

It is that time of year once again. Time for our Editor Matt to gaze into the future and come up with the most anticipated games of 2020. We now bounce on some mushroom heads and make impossible leaps with 2020’s upcoming platformers.

The Most Anticipated Platformers of 2020

Super Meat Boy Forever

Super Meat Boy was a revelation. Tight gameplay with amazing level design and a challenge that while steep, was seemingly never out of reach for the average joe. Well, it has been a long time since that game came out and wowed us all so the question is can Super Meat Boy Forever excite us just as much all these years later. My guess is yes, yes it can. This sort of gameplay is timeless and as long as the levels are just as well designed, this one will wow every once again when it is released mid-late 2020.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps

I considered leaving this title off the list just to upset our deputy editor Paul because he can’t stop banging on about it. But I have to admit he is right. This is going to be one hell of a game. Ori and the Blind Forest was just about perfect so the expectations for its sequel are super high. Be prepared to be wowed with its beauty and challenged by its gameplay when it hits Xbox One and PC on the 111th of March

Psychonauts 2

Tim Schafer and Double Fine’s long-awaited sequel should finally see the light of day this year and boy am I excited. It is my firm belief that the original was the best 3D platform of the Xbox generation, even bettering the great Mario during that time. The warped sense of humour, outlandish setting and amazing gameplay puts Psychonauts into one of my favourite games ever, even taking into account the meat circus. Now the sequel is within my grasp and I can’t wait. My only question is, Have you seen the milkman?

Oddworld: Soulstorm

The second remake of the classic Oddworld: Abe’s Odyssey, this time around it is more than a graphical spitshine. The Oddworld team have gone back to the drawing board meaning this release is more in line with the remake jobs Capcom did with Resident Evil 2 than a simple upgrade. I am super keen to see what an Oddworld game looks like in 2020, as I loved them when they came out but struggled to enjoy them when I went back recently. Oddworld: Soulstorm is coming to just about every platform sometime this year, though I expect it to be towards the end of the year.

Hollow Knight: Silksong

Originally starting life as DLC for the original title, Silksong has blown out into a full release and for millions of Hollow Knight fans around the world, that is fantastic news. Silksong features a new playable character, new maps, new powers and new wonder as some of the best Metroidvania action around makes its return. I think this one will hit mid-yearish and could be released close to Nintendo’s annual E3 Direct. It is coming to Switch and PC initially, no word on Xbox or PS4 ports just yet.
