The life of space criminals are to be conscripted into labour gangs, and thrown into deathly situations over and over again. Because eventually they will succeed at their appointed task, or fall over for the next one to step in and carry the burden. This is what it means to be a Void Bastard. Ken guides these bastards into derelict spaceships to scavenge for random parts and resources – for what purpose? He does not know. But he knows that for the one that survives, the reward of a reduced sentence awaits.
