Destiny and Destiny 2 are the GaaS title I’ve dabbled with the most, having come over from the original game which was a fantastic shooter that relied on repeated content a little too much, something I suspect most games in the genre are guilty of. I eventually fell out of playing it due to the repetitive nature of the gameplay aspects I enjoyed and also a lack of interest in gear score chasing, which I had burned out of me during the few years I spent playing WoW. Proclaimed the final piece of content wrapping up the ongoing narrative thus far, 10 years isn’t a terrible run for such a property, but the lengthy gap between revisiting this particular well doesn’t have me terribly excited for The Final Shape.

Multiplayer Live Service stuff is pretty much the antithesis of the games I enjoy playing these days, especially when I struggle enough with feeling guilty for spending time on the efforts that I want to be playing.
The thing is – I like a lot of the concepts behind Destiny 2’s narrative, but the requirements of keeping up with a larger story (made harder thanks to earlier content being shuttered and what not) kind of turns me off even wanting to try and get into it to experience this grand finale.

I get the idea behind all the GAAS titles, but paying almost the same amount for the first expansion for the original Destiny as it did for MGSV (whoa, that was a while ago) left me feeling burned when I finished content in one sitting. From then on I have not really been that interested. I did play Destiny 2 when it first came out and loved the story but I just can’t bring myself to keep investing in the game. For those who love it go nuts, I, unfortunately, am not one of those people.

I used to love Destiny 2, and returned for a few expansions, but the grind is not something I can get around. I just don’t commit to long-term games such as this so as the years have gone on my investment has waned and now I’ve missed the last few expansions. All the buzz I hear is extremely positive about what Bungie is planning to do with this one, but I won’t be party to it, the mountain is too great to climb now. It’s time for a Destiny 3 if they want me to come back.

Every year, at this time of year, I do the silly thing and reinstall Destiny. I love the loop, I love the shooting, I love the design. Can’t get my head around what is going on and once I have finished the story missions I usually drop off, but I can’t deny that I dig what Destiny lays down. So I am keen to dive into the final story drop for this arc.
