2025’s Most Anticipated Games – Jess’ Picks

2025's Most Anticipated Games - Jess' Picks

2025 is shaping up to be one of the biggest years in video games of all time. No matter whether you play on PC, PlayStation 4 or 5, Xbox One or Series X|S, or the Nintendo Switch, and maybe the upcoming Switch successor, you’re going to have a lot to play in 2025. Given that, we couldn’t simply pool the team’s thoughts into one top 10 countdown of the most anticipated games, so we solicited 10 from each person to discuss. Today, hear what Jess has to say about their 10 most anticipated games of 2025.

P2 Most Anticipated 2025 - Tales Of The Shire

10. Tales Of The Shire

I love The Lord of the Rings. Every time I listen to Concerning Hobbits, I weep a million tears. BUT, as we all know, the series has a… tumultuous relationship with its game adaptations. That said, I don’t believe there’s a world in which I don’t enjoy Tales of the Shire. Hanging out as a tiny hobbit version of me, tending to gardens and just hanging out in my own little hobbit hole? Channelling the energy of someone whose biggest concern is when second breakfast is happening? It can only be a wonderful experience, and I can’t wait to get cosy.

P2 Most Anticipated 2025 - Mixtape

9. Mixtape

The Artful Escape was a goddamn masterpiece, and I have full and complete faith in Beethoven & Dinosaur and their ability to create games that feel like art experiences. Add that to a plot about a ragtag little bunch of rebellious friends, a killer soundtrack, and a distinctive art style that feels perfect for the game’s setting? What a combo! This game has Jess written all over it, and I’m excited to see how the relationships between this little gang of misfits turn out. (This isn’t the only game on this list that fits that description – stay tuned).

8. Assassin's Creed Shadows

The last few Assassin’s Creed games have, for the most part, truly delivered – and despite some delays, there’s no reason to believe this entry to the series won’t do the same. Feudal Japan is perfect for the shenanigans of our assassins, and we already know the game is stunning to look at and has some intriguing protagonists. All the ingredients are there, and I have faith that Ubisoft is cooking up something good.

P2 Most Anticipated 2025 - Dispatch

7. Dispatch

I just love superheroes so much. So, so much. I will play essentially any game that gives me a bunch of people with superhuman abilities fumbling their way through fighting crime – and this seems like it’s going to be exactly that. I’m interested in every single of the characters we’ve seen in the trailer, I love the idea of being in charge of just straight-up logistics, and it’s clear that this game has a great sense of humour. Plus, it’s coming from some of the team behind the greatest Telltale games? There’s so much to look forward to!

6. Avowed

Obsidian know what they’re doing – particularly when it comes to telling a good story. I have a lot of questions about the world of Avowed, and I don’t love that the trailer shows a lot of bug-and-spider-adjacent enemies, but everything else about Avowed looks cool enough that I’m determined to get past that. I wish it weren’t first person (and I think that’s what stops it from being further up my list) but I’ll get past that too. Basically, this game is clearly doing something right if it can make me this excited despite what would in many cases be some pretty big deal breakers.

5. Split Fiction

Split Fiction really snuck in at the end of the year to disrupt this list when I thought I had a final draft. So, thanks Hazelight. Everything about this game appeals to me – a story focused on not only two female protagonsits, but also protagonists who are writers, and who seem to have a relationship filled with interesting tension. I love stories about stories and writing, so even if this wasn’t coming from a developer who have more than proven their co-op platforming chops, I’d be on board. Knowing that it comes from Hazelight? There’s a very real chance this is game of the year for me next year.

P2 Most Anticipated 2025 - The Wolf Among Us 2

4. The Wolf Among Us 2

This is now the third year I’ve included TWAU2, and I’m just going to keep putting this on my list until it happens. Is it wishful thinking? Probably. Is it going to be worth it if this is the year we finally get the game we’ve been waiting more than a decade for? Also yes. But let’s recycle what I said last year –

“Though the Telltale formula is now one we’re all familiar with, this is one of the games that defined the genre, and there’s something special about a well-done grisly fairy tale. Playing the first game inspired me to get into the Fables comics, and I can only assume playing the second one is going to inspire a similar amount of emotion.”

P2 Most Anticipated 2025 - Professor Layton And The New World Of Steam

3. Professor Layton And The New World Of Steam

I’m such a puzzle fan, so of course I’m excited for the first new Layton game in what feels like a million years. I love that the games in this series simultaneously feel like a quaint British hug, and also the most absurd pieces of fiction you could ever encounter. My brain is ready for a new series of riddles, and a new overarching mystery to get absolutely lost in. Bring on The New World of Steam – even if the Switch will never be quite as perfect a vessel for the series as the DS and 3DS were.

P2 Most Anticipated 2025 - Lost Records Bloom And Rage

2. Lost Records: Bloom & Rage

I’m really just so into the vibe of basically everything Don’t Nod create. Again, another little ragtag group of friends (who seem pretty queer, there’s no way there isn’t some gay energy going on here), some weird supernatural shit, and a plot that seems to be bringing the Yellowjackets vibes. I am clearly Don’t Nod’s target audience, and I am eating up what they are serving.

P2 Most Anticipated 2025 - Fable

1. Fable

There’s nothing quite like having someone yell ‘CHICKEN CHASER’ at you to inspire you to become a better hero who is known for better things. I’ve always felt like Fable is almost the fantasy equivalent of what Saints Row is to Grand Theft Auto – it’s silly, doesn’t take itself too seriously, and is always one hell of a romp. They also tend to feature amazing British casts with recognisable names who absolutely don’t need to be lending their talent to games like this, but who show up anyway to bring the goods. It’s been so long since we had a new Fable, and my heart and soul are ready.
