2025's Most Anticipated Games - Rob's Picks
2025 is shaping up to be one of the biggest years in video games of all time. No matter whether you play on PC, PlayStation 4 or 5, Xbox One or Series X|S, or the Nintendo Switch, and maybe the upcoming Switch successor, you’re going to have a lot to play in 2025. Given that, we couldn’t simply pool the team’s thoughts into one top 10 countdown of the most anticipated games, so we solicited 10 from each person to discuss. Today, hear what Rob has to say about their 10 most anticipated games of 2025.

10. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
I’m probably cheating by nominating Doctor Jones’ latest outing, but let’s face it: my PC is a potato, and I lack the money (and space) for an Xbox, so I’m waiting for its PS5 release which is due sometime this year.
Considering the reception it’s gotten from both critics and players, I’ll know I’ll in for a exciting ride, which is no surprise considering it was put together by Machinegames who certainly know their stuff when it comes to this style of game. Also the chance to take out plenty of fascist scum to, but that’s basically an essential when it comes to Indy!

9. Fatal Run 2089
When looking at certain modernisations of old Atari properties, I couldn’t help but remark that I feel it’s been a bit hit and miss with them. Though we’ve only seen small snippets of it in action so far, I think Fatal Run 2089 has the potential to bring that car combat action into the 21st century.
The core is there – taking charge of your hotted up road machine, and fighting your way through highways filled with other drivers out for your blood, and it looks like a great throwback to the kinds of arcade racers which we don’t get any more. So I’m excited to see how it turns out, because if does well, I’m sure it’s going to scratch an itch for a lot of folks!

8. Shadow Labyrinth
When the trailer for Shadow Labyrinth dropped during The Game Awards, I was certainly bewildered after my first watch. Taking one of gaming’s most iconic characters in Pac-Man, and making a exploratory platformer out of it? Okay.
But learning this grew out of the distinctive episode of the Secret Level anthology series, and it makes a lot of sense. More importantly though, I feel like this is such a distinctive take on what a Pac-Man game that the curiosity to see the final result has got me kind of excited to see how it’ll play out.
7. Assassin's Creed: Shadows
I’m genuinely interested seeing where Ubisoft are taking things with Assassin’s Creed: Shadows. Moving it to (another) new locale in Japan is certainly going to establish a new tone for the stealth action, and I can’t help but get excited for the possibilities of what you can get up to there.
Despite that, I can’t ignore some of the concerns around the late delays, and of course, wondering if they’ve taken the right lessons from the likes of Mirage by tightening up the story instead of going all out with an open world and the RPG mechanics of those games prior to Mirage.

6. Cleared Hot
Much like last year’s Megacopter, Cleared Hot aims to scratch the itch left by the likes of Desert Strike. But where Megacopter went down a grim path with its story, Cleared Hot is aiming to play it far more straight.
It also offers some cool twists, namely having to provide cover for a squad during some missions, alongside being able to pick up almost anything on the map. It certainly sounds video-gamey, but I think it’s a great twist. One again, if the final result looks as tight as what’s being shown, I think Cleared Hot will be a great action game.

5. TRON: Catalyst
Movie tie-ins are still ever so divisive (even if we happened to show that there’s plenty of good modern ones on the Pixelcast not too long ago), so TRON: Catalyst has got quite the uphill battle.
Though some might have wanted a full-on AAA effort, I’m certainly quite excited to see what the Bithell Games team are doing here, as on first glance we look to be getting those moody TRON aesthetics combined with the fleshed out story telling which Bithell’s previous games have offered, and some frantic disc throwing action inside the Grid. I’m a sucker for a smaller adventure, and TRON: Catalyst certainly looks the part on that side too!

4. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
It might just be a remake of a game which (thankfully) is pretty easy to play in its original form on current hardware, so Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater might seem a bit unnecessary at first.
The thing is though? It’s one thing to make something available, but it’s another to make it approachable for a modern audience, and that’s something I’m curious about. Naked Snake’s adventures in the jungles of Cold War Russia are a series highlight, adding to the series’ mythology, and so I can’t wait to see how new players respond to this take on them.

3. The Outer Worlds 2
The original Outer Worlds was one of those experiences which clicked with me in ways than other similar games (ie. the modern Fallouts) never could. A lot of that was down to the satirical tone which managed to hit hard at big companies and the characters which managed to feel relatable in their struggles in such a society.
This is what I’m hoping Obsidian manage to keep with The Outer Worlds 2. Of course, there’s always the trick of wondering how the story will continue from the variety of endings of the first – and what kind of sneaky tricks all those big corps will be up to again.

2. Free Stars: Children of Infinity
It’s been a long, long time since I originally sat down and got engrossed by a little game called The Ur-Quan Masters (originally released as Star Control 2). Its mix of Spacewar inspired battles, and a galactic adventure spanning the stars was the stuff of legend, and that’s before the hilarious script and alien characters you’ll meet.
Though there have been attempts at follow-ups and spiritual successors, the fact that we’ll have the real sequel in 2025 (if all goes to plan) has me deliciously excited. I look forward to dusting off those Melee skills, and getting into space battles, whilst travelling the cosmos and being delighted by so many bizarre alien friends. Maybe at long last, we’ll even learn about Frungy too!

1. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
Metroid Prime 4’s development I’m sure will make a heck of an interesting story. But seeing its trailer at a recent Nintendo Direct after so many years of silence, and it certainly looks like we’re back. The earlier Prime games were iconic for how they adapted the 2D platforming of the original Metroid games, and brought into 3D in a way that no one since has really been able to do.
So seeing this come up for release (hopefully alongside the Switch 2) has got me excited because it’ll be nice to return to the suit of the Federation’s greatest Bounty Hunter and see what adventures lie ahead.
