2025's Most Anticipated Games - Shaun's Picks
2025 is shaping up to be one of the biggest years in video games of all time. No matter whether you play on PC, PlayStation 4 or 5, Xbox One or Series X|S, or the Nintendo Switch, and maybe the upcoming Switch successor, you’re going to have a lot to play in 2025. Given that, we couldn’t simply pool the team’s thoughts into one top 10 countdown of the most anticipated games, so we solicited 10 from each person to discuss. Today, hear what Shaun has to say about their 10 most anticipated games of 2025.

10. Death Stranding 2
The first was weird and knowing the mind of Kojima, the sequel is going to be just as trippy. You have to give it to the man though, taking a game that starts literally as a walking simulator and not only making it interesting, but getting players invested in helping to rebuild the world and its connections ios a hell of a thing. It will be very interesting to see what happens in the sequel.

9. Fable
I’m happy to admit, this entry is for the pure nostalgia feeling alone. It’s been a long time between adventures in the world of Albion, and while the games were good, there were also a lot of instances where things were over-promised and under-delivered. With a new team of developers bringing the franchise back to life, I am quietly hoping for a successful return to the world of Albion and the British humour the franchise is known for.

8. Ghost of Yotei
Rather than crafting a straight-up sequel to 2020’s epic Ghost of Tsushima, Sucker Punch Productions takes us forward in time 300 years and sets you loose in mainland Japan. So far no details have been given regarding the plot and why our protagonist Atsu, takes up the mantle of ‘The Ghost’, all we know is that the Ronin are after her and we will get to explore even more gorgeous areas of Japan. It has also been claimed that players will have a bit more agency and decision-making in Atsu’s story than we saw with Jin but that will remain to be seen.

7. Skate 4
Another series that I managed to miss when they first came out ( I was all about the THPS and its offshoots), I am intrigued to see what happens with Skate. It has been confirmed to be a Free-to-Play game, which under the banner of EA could be cause for concern, but a developer video has stated there will be a narrative component for the game. Early playtesting is already underway and I think if we don’t see the full release of Skate, I think we will be able to jump into early access at some point this year.
6. Assassins Creed: Shadows
Having thoroughly enjoyed my time with Assassins Creed: Mirage, with a smaller world map and a reliance on stealth, where a hidden blade to the throat will kill instead of just wounding, and most importantly, you are actually a part of the Assassin Brotherhood, not just connected to it by a side characters cousin twice removed. For me, this was a return to the earlier style of AC games, before the RPG elements and gear score were introduced to worlds that are so big you can complete the narrative without ever exploring a good chunk of them. I hope that Shadows continues down this path to some degree. Also, it’s about god-damned time they did one in Japan.

5. Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines 2
I have never actually experienced any of the games in the Vampire The Masquerade series and the way development was going I didn’t think that was going to change at all. However, the developers The Chinese Room’ have been cooking and from what I have seen so far I am definitely keen on giving the game a chance. With its combat and skills reminiscent of the Dishonored series and multiple ways to play and progress through the story, I am willing to give the game a shot and see what diving into the rich world of Vampire The Masquerade brings to the table.

4. Grand Theft Auto VI
Let’s face it, there is a high chance that this long-awaited sequel will be delayed into 2026, especially if Rockstar wants to avoid a repeat of the negative publicity it copped over excessive crunch with Red Dead Redemption 2. By all accounts, there have been changes to the culture at Rockstar, which could account for the long development period we have seen for GTA VI. The thing is, I know it’s going to look great, play great and eat up a lot of hours of my life and it is currently slated to release during the back end of the year. We will have to wait and see what the future brings, but it is for this reason that GTA VI is not my number one for 2025.
3. Avowed
Obsidian crafted one of my all-time favourite games in New Vegas and knows how to put out a quality RPG. I must admit, Starfield left me feeling kind of “meh”, so I am really looking forward to sinking my teeth into a good old-fashioned fantasy RPG where the choices can have consequences and the companion characters will actually have some meaning to the story. Throw in the fact that it will be available to download through Game Pass on day one and it is a total no-brainer for me.
2. Monster Hunter Wilds
I had never played a Monster Hunter game before the release of the most excellent Monster Hunter: World on PS4, but I fell in love with slaying giant beasts while accompanied by a cat that does more than sleep, eat and ATTACK MY HANDS WHEN I ONLY WANT TO GIVE HER LOVE. Ahem. After putting in many many hours in MH: World, I tried my hand at MH Rise on the Switch and you could easily see the difference in what the systems could put out graphically. With Wilds being developed for the PS5 and X-Box Series consoles I know it is going to look even better than MH: World and suck up way too much of my life grinding for monster parts.

1. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
Despite the only information I can find saying the expected release is in 2025, this is still by far my most anticipated game, and one I knew I would be getting on day one as soon as I heard about it. If you have listened to Pixelcast 148 you know of my disdain for MGSV, primarily due to the way the story was structured and repeating content. Like the FFVII trilogy, this is a complete remake of the original game, with current-gen graphics and the options for a more modern control scheme and 3rd person camera, making for a brand-spanking new sneaking experience for returning players or the later generations who missed out.
So that concludes Shaun’s list of their most anticipated games of 2025. What are some of yours? Hit us up via social media to let us know what games you are keen on in 2025!
