Lorcana Fabled Launches This Month

With some exciting news dropping out of Gen Con this week, it’s a timely reminder that Lorcana receives its first big meta-shakeup later this month courtesy of Fabled, the ninth wave of content which heralds the first set rotation. For TCG newcomers, a set rotation is an event in which a selection of previously released sets are removed from legal competitive play to prevent the scene from stagnating. Marking two years since Lorcana’s debut, Fabled will see the first four waves of content – First Chapter, Rise of the Floodborn, Into the Inklands and Ursula’s Return – disappear from competitive constructed formats. This can be a crucial point for a lot of young TCG’s, so how well it is handled and the impact on the community remains to be seen.

Lorcana 2025 Rotation

Ravensburger have accounted for this in Fabled, which will reprint key cards from the first four waves in some capacity to keep them present in legal play, with reports that all versions of a card, provided nothing has changed in terms of wording or mechanics, will remain legal. Some Ursula’s Return cards will be left in an odd position, as the set will have spent the shortest time-period in legal play, something that players should keep in mind going forward when rotation occurs again in late 2026 and Reign of Jafar similarly dips out with around a year of legality. While just speculation on my part, this process could mean that either Ravensburger will begin to reduce the new card count each set to account for reprints, or perhaps more likely that each release following a rotation will serve as a ‘greatest hits’ for the ousted waves. Fabled isn’t all reprints however, introducing Iconic, a new Rarity level above Enchanted for collectors alongside new cast of characters from Dumbo and A Goofy Movie – put me down for a Powerline/I2I combo please Ravensburger!

As with previous waves, Fabled will hit local hobby stores on the 29th of August worldwide, making its way to broader retail on September 5th. We now have more info regarding the 10th and 11th waves of planned Lorcana content which will round out 2025 and Q1 2026. Whispers in the Well is scheduled for an early November release starting on the 7th, while wave 11, titled Winterspell, should launch in late February or early March based on previous sets. Make sure to check the schedule of events at your Friendly Local Game Store, like those at Vault Games in Brisbane, to book yourself in for some Fabled prerelease fun!
