For today’s average people’s consumption: the LucidSound LS10 Gaming Headset.
In a day and age where everything is so damn expensive, it’s always a treat to find quality products that don’t cost the whole world, and that’s what the new LucidSound LS10 Gaming Headset truly is – a great product for not a lot of money.
Fitting into the “budget” category of headsets at only 50 Aussie bucks (or 49 if you shop around!), it is a great deal, but I’m sure all of us have been burned by cheap tech before. The good thing for us is that this headset delivers sound and quality that really goes beyond the price tag.
Look & Feel
Whilst the model I reviewed (PS5 model) is nothing particularly special to look at, the headset does come in a range of funky colours to choose from. No matter what colour you go with, the design is sleek, clean and modern, with the mic tucking up neatly against the headset cup when not in use.
Volume is controlled by a big dial on the left earcup, near the mic. This was super easy to use, and by clicking the dial itself, you can also start, pause and skip audio as well as answer and end calls.
This headset is lightweight without feeling cheap. It won’t feel heavy on your head after a few hours of wear, but it is a little tight around my ears; however, it doesn’t press on my piercings or cause any pain in spite of this. If you have a particularly big head, this headset may not be the one for you, though, as there’s not a great range of extension to make the headset bigger. For all of us pinheads out there, though, we’re in luck.
The LS10 comes with a standard 3.5mm jack, giving you huge flexibility in where and how you use it. Whilst my model was made to plug into a PS5 controller, I was also able to plug it into my headset stand and use it with my PC with no worries. You can also use it with any gaming device that has a headphone jack with no additional setup.
Sound Quality
I can hear the whole Player2 crew laughing as I write this, but the mic is a little soft, making me sound quieter than I actually am. When playing games with people, we found they had to turn my volume up to full in order to hear me clearly (something that has never happened in the history of time). This might be because the mic itself is rather short and doesn’t sit in front of your mouth like most headset mics. Other than up and down, you also can’t move it closer or further away.
It definitely gets the job done, and whilst a little soft, the sound quality is crisp and clear.
For 50 bucks, the audio quality on this is pretty fantastic. You’re not going to get heavy bass or perfect pitch when listening to music, but it also doesn’t sound tinny either. Voices when chatting or watching videos come through clearly, and video game noise all sounds pretty great. Again, you’re not going to get the full spectrum of sound from every game, but if you’re anything like me, you will be able to hear your character die in crystal clear sound, so that’s something.
Closing Thoughts & TLDR
For $50, the LS10 is a solid little piece of hardware. For a small price tag, you’re getting a lightweight, versatile headset that delivers big sound. And finally, for those who scrolled to the bottom for the TLDR, here is your pros and cons list.
