Pokemon GO turns 10 this July
In news that makes me feel like I’m crumbling to dust as I write this post, Pokemon GO turns 10 this coming July – that’s right, the game that gathered more GPS data, spruiked more portable battery sales than any other title in history and pushed more shut-in gamers to go for a walk is a decade old.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, Pokemon GO is hosting a 10th Anniversary Party weekend event from 10AM on Saturday on July 4th until 8PM Monday on July 6th, with some rare Pokemon and items available until the very end of July.
Across the event weekend, a number of bonuses will be running for all trainers, including:
- The chance to capture a 10th Anniversary Costumed Gimmighoul when using Golden Lure Modules or from a Coin Bag. Theres also a chance the Gimmighoul will come with a Special Background, while using a Coin Bag may cause a Shiny Gimmighoul to appear instead.
- 4× XP for catching Pokémon.
- 4× Stardust for catching Pokémon.
- Event-themed Pokémon appearing in the wild are more likely to be Shiny.
- One Super Incubator
- One Premium Battle Pass
- An encounter with Gimmighoul holding a 10th anniversary coin with a Special Background
- And more!
Beware that any potential rewards through the timed event will need to be obtained while the event is running. Trainers will be able to purchase and gift tickets to any of their Pokémon GO friends that they have achieved a Friendship level of Great Friends or higher with.
There is also a new Avatar outfit for purchase in the in-game store during the 10th Anniversary Party event.
But honestly, the real MVP here is Birthday Cake Hat Pikachu and his mates OG Starters with Party Hats on – what’s not to love?
