News Bites – Friday the 22nd of January 2016

– Warner Brothers announced the release of Mortal Kombat XL this week. This will include the main game as well as all previously released DLC and the upcoming Kombat Pack 2. At this stage it seems that PC players are being ignored with the title only announced for release of Xbox One and PS4. With the original PC release being spotty it is probably not surprising that Warner Brothers wants to cut ties with that version. Sadly it seems as far as the big WB are concerned the PC is the poor, unloved cousin of the consoles and doesn’t deserve a full effort.

– After a break over Christmas, Microsoft has resumed its monthly update program for the Xbox One. The first update, which is now live for Preview Program members, includes the ability to see who is in any multiplayer party prior to joining. This is a handy feature that is sure to prevent some awkward moments with ex partners and the like. The exciting new addition is Gamescore leaderboards. A must for those of you with a burning desire to be better than your friends. All this along with 10 new backwards compatible titles (including The Witcher 2 which is currently free for the next week or so) and it is another example of Microsoft’s desire to continually improve their system.

– Bandai Namco have announced that the demo for Project X Zone 2 is now available from the 3DS store. The demo will give you access up to Chapter 3 and will let you experience some of the many new characters in the game. For those that don’t know Project X Zone is a turn based strategy game featuring characters from Namco titles such as Tekken and Tales of Vesperia and Capcom games such as Megaman and Devil May Cry. In this entry Sega have also joined in on the fun supplying characters from Virtua Fighter and Yakuza. Hopefully with all these characters the game doesn’t get weighed down by fan service. Project X Zone 2 is due for release on the 3DS on the 12th of February.

– In cool news for fans of Xcom mods, the makers of The Long War (an Xcom mod that made an already hard game even harder as well as giving it a number of new features) have been employed by Firaxis to create mods for Xcom 2 that will be available at launch. More details will surely come soon with the Xcom2 launch only 2 weeks away.
