Represent the Boomers in NBA 2K23
As a big fan of Australia’s NBL (Go the Hawks) I can tell you two things. The first is that the quality of basketball coming out of our national competition is world-class, leading it to become a genuine feeder and conditioning comp for the NBA, with many teams sending young players here to get experience at a high level before playing in the USA. The second thing is The Boomers seriously kicked butt at the last Olympics and only missed out on a Gold Medal match against the US by the narrowest of margins. There is no doubt that basketball in Australia is growing at an astounding rate and that has been recognised by the team at NBA 2K.
For the first time since 2017, Aussie gamers will be able to sport the green and gold in a match of NBA 2K23. There is a catch though, it is only for the multiplayer modes and wandering the City/Boat. Sorry, there is no chance to actually take control of the Boomers themselves, but at least we get some Aussie representation of some sort. In a recent press release Aussie gun (and product of the NBL) Josh Giddey said “Representing Australia and wearing a Boomers jersey has always been a goal of mine. Being able to play NBA 2K23 wearing the Boomers kit, the iconic green and gold, is an amazing addition to the game this year. I cannot wait to walk around The City and bump into fellow Aussies proudly wearing their Boomers jersey.”
So while I am very happy to see the Green and Gold, I can only hope that in future NBA games they take it further and perhaps include the Basketball World Cup in some way. Basketball is a huge sport for a massive part of the planet and with NBA 2K being the best (and only) representation of that sport, I would love to see a more global focus in the future.
In other 2K news, the team over at NBA 2K HQ released a new trailer going into how “The City” will look in this year’s edition. You can catch that below and get excited for the game’s release tomorrow.
