The Pros Are Coming To PGA 2K23
As we get closer to the release date of highly anticipated (well by me and other old folks like me) PGA 2K23 we are starting to get some more information. As is 2K games is modus operandi, they like to drip feed this stuff to keep the hype train chugging. The latest update is a pretty big one though with a big list of all the pros hitting the game at launch.
The full list of gun golfers is:
- Tiger Woods;
- Justin Thomas;
- Lexi Thompson;
- Lydia Ko;
- Brooke Henderson;
- Will Zalatoris;
- Collin Morikawa;
- Tony Finau;
- Jon Rahm;
- Rickie Fowler;
- Justin Rose;
- Xander Schauffele;
There are more to be announced at a later date though it is unclear if they will be DLC additions or simply added into the game. Each of the golfers is going to be decked out in their actual playing gear with all the appropriate sponsorships and brand names in place to give that true-to-life feel that 2K sports games are known for.
The one thing that worries me about the press release is the mention of consumable golf balls that give a stat boost. This suspiciously smells like a VC initiative and I would really hate for PGA 2K23 to go the way of NBA 2K23 and be absolutely flooded with this type of micro-transaction. Luckily, the main appeal of golf is beating yourself, so boosting stats is a pretty hollow way to do that. I am taking the high road here, but I would totally buy stat-boosting golf balls if they let me hit the ball straight in real life.
Hopefully, it is a minor thing though and players can play multiplayer without these sorts of purchases enabling a pay-to-win scenario. Fingers crossed. We will know for sure when the game is released on the 11th of October for the Deluxe Edition and the 14th of October for the standard release.
