The Rumours Are True - LEGO 2K Drive is Coming.

Gosh, the video game industry is leakier than a rusty colander at times. Stuff gets leaked to the public way too often and I can only imagine how frustrating it is for games companies planning big reveals. Case and point, LEGO 2K Drive, leaked late last week. But hey, we now have the official word and honestly it sounds like it could be a winner.

LEGO 2K Drive is a new racing game from Visual Concepts and 2K games that is taking the concept of LEGO racing one step further, with its own, fully-featured racing game. From the sounds of things, it is closer to Diddy Kong Racing than Mario Kart, with an open world to explore, a story and a host of challenges and collectables scattered around the place. It will also feature LEGO versions of real-life cars, including a collaboration with McLaren.

In the press release, Remi Marcelli, Head of LEGO GAME said “Video games have long been an important way our fans experience the magic of the LEGO System-in-Play, and 2K’s strong track record of delivering quality, innovative titles for a broad range of audiences makes them the perfect partner to create the next iconic AAA LEGO games. Beginning with LEGO 2K Drive, we’re excited for fans to experience a fresh new take that builds on the LEGO humor and fun fans have come to expect.”

Honestly, it looks smashing and I can’t wait to see more of it. Forza proved that LEGO racing can be a blast so I hope that LEGO 2K Drive delivers on that potential. LEGO 2K Drive is coming to PS 4/5, Xbox Series/One, PC and Switch on May 19 so there really isn’t too long to wait. In the meantime check out the feature list from the press release below along with some screens and the announcement trailer. I for one am pretty keen to see how this one turns out.
