Getting Ready to Rumble with Nubs!

Getting Ready to Rumble with Nubs!

Couch multiplayer experiences seem to be few and far between these days. We are lucky if we get one or two a year. Luckily, when they hit, they often hit hard. Overcooked, Moving Out and even Human Fall Flat have become cult hits in their own right, letting players take joy in something oldheads like myself used to take for granted: sitting in a room with a mate, playing video games and talking smack. Well, there is a new entry coming that hopes to earn its own place in the couch multiplayer genre and that is the new title from Rangtang and Glowfish Interactive called Nubs!

Nubs! is being developed by a group of ex-Awesomnauts and Trifox devs, and it is an arena brawler that has been inspired by classic top-down adventures. Think The Legend of Zelda but fighting with mates instead of the world. The game will feature online multiplayer, but the real appeal is sitting down with four mates, some beers and snacks and going at it. The gameplay is looking quite promising, with a recent press release outlining the key features below:

  • Online or Local Carnage
Play together with up to 4 friends or foes in the living room or across the globe and put your skills to the test in the arena. Will you be the last Nub standing?
  • Frenzied brawler action
Fight for victory in an assortment of multi-levelled arenas, keep a keen eye for traps that could make or break your path to victory in this fast-paced indie game.
  • No Nub alike
With their own oddball style, these tiny troublemakers are funny, silly, and absolutely ready to throw down! As cute as they may look, they arm themselves with ridiculous pick ups to gain a tactical advantage.
  • Modes for Days
Stay on your toes with a variety of game modes and a roguelite progression system that ensures no two play sessions are the same. Dive in and see what surprises await!

With an expected release of Q2 2025 on Steam, Nubs! is a game that couch multiplayer fans should keep an eye on. No word on a console release as yet, but it feels like the sort of game that would thrive in that environment, so I am hoping that will change as the game gets closer to its release. In the meantime Wishlist the game on Steam if this sort of thing is your bag and check out the trailer below.
