The Elder Scrolls Online Is Heading Back To The Beginning

The Elder Scrolls Online is now into its 11th year and it has constantly been one of the best MMOs that money can buy. It brings all the lore and love from the single-player Elder Scrolls games and combines it with the social fun of an online experience. Each year the developers have added a tonne of new things. There has been a strong new story added each year for a while now and along with that a host of new content and gameplay. But after all this time things are starting to get out of hand. There is just so much content now that new and returning players are almost drowned in options when they boot up, so this year, ESO is going back to that start.

This year, the game goes back to the original release’s storyline with the return of the Worm Cult. For those that played on launch, this story apparently ends in something of a tease and 11 years later that is finally playing out. As a part of this return to the beginning, there is a big push to change things up and improve on things that have been requested for years by players. This new story content will be delivered over the year but in a change from the norm, instead of being purchased in 4 smaller parts over the year, players just buy the whole thing as a part of the 2025 content pass. This will include the two parts of the Worm Cult Story, along with a new dungeon and the Writing Wall event which will see the whole server joining forces to break through the Worm Cult’s defences and open the way for part 2 of the story.

The first big change to the game structure is a refresh and redo of the new and returning player systems. There is undoubtedly a massive amount of stuff to do in ESO now so it can be daunting for new and returning players. Called Heroe’s Return, this new system will be a refresher for people coming back and will offer rewards designed to help people get moving quickly in the world of Tamriel. The second, and most exciting is the introduction of subclassing. Players will be able to implement skills from other classes, allowing them to mix and match classes and really customise their experience. This should add a great deal of fun for those who have high-level characters that are starting to feel a bit stale.

All this cool stuff arrives in June, with a welcome quest available now. You can get all these details and more from the recent ESO Direct
