Indie Watch - Anger Foot & GORN 2
Anger Foot
I played a lot of football as a kid, and as such, I ended up developing a fairly decent kick. Now while I can’t say that I’d ever channelled that ability into kicking someone’s face in, Anger Foot gives me a sneak peak into what things would’ve been like if I had – utter chaos.
Your job is to track down those responsible for stealing your treasured sneakers through ‘Shit City’, and to do some you’ll need to speed run your way through city skyscrapers, sewers, and more, thrashing your way through a load of different enemy types who wield both melee and ranged weapons, who are all keen to take you out, and prevent you from recouping your footwear. As Anger Foot you must kick your way to glory, while taking advantage of guns, and other weapons that you chance upon through your travels. Recovering your stolen pairs of shoes, and taking down the crime syndicates of Shit City is just a few swift kicks away.

While the novelty of the game doesn’t last too long, making the game’s ~5 hour lifespan ideal, the pursuit of the ‘Violence Gang’, ‘Polution Gang’, ‘Business Gang’, and the ‘Debauchery Gang’, is nonetheless still enjoyable. The game’s intensity, and speed makes it even more enticing, and while the ride is short, it is still worthwhile.

GORN 2
I nearly missed the original GORN. The original PSVR had some excellent games, but the cumbersome setup process was such a turn-off that it discouraged sitting down and playing a game in VR. PSVR2 is another story however, and so, while I almost missed the original GORN, but ultimately had a lot of fun with it, in the case of GORN 2, I was locked, loaded, and ready for.
You’re not going to have a long time with GORN 2, in fact, the game will barely last more than 2 hours to see to completion, but you’ll have a great time once again slicing and dicing your way through a range of fun combat arenas against some larger than life opponents. The franchise’s cel-shaded graphics work incredibly well in VR, and pair sensationally with the wild combat. Chasing each stage’s additional challenge rewards players with even more powerful weaponry, or new ways to inflict heinous levels of violence on your goonish opponents.

For the most part, GORN 2 is a pretty safe sequel, doing little to shake up what worked well in the original game, though a few modes have been added. Fafflingly, the game adds a “Low Violence Mode” where blood swaps for confetti, to appeal to a group of players who love horrific violent acts… without the blood? Hardcore Mode also gives players the opportunity to replay the game at a much higher difficulty level, but beyond this, there’s not a lot of reasons to return to the game.
You’ll have a great time with GORN 2 if your expectations aren’t too high. There’s a lot to like, but if you played the original release, then you’ve certainly done all of this already.
