Hollow Knight Silksong

In the year of our lord 2025, Hollow Knight: Silksong is finally coming out! With all the hype around the game’s newly announced release date, how could I not squeeze the game into my latest rendition of Indie Watch? There has been no more anticipated independently developed game of all time, but from all I’ve seen, Silksong is more than capable of meeting the hype.

In Hollow Knight: Silksong, players are endeavouring to ascend to the peak of a haunted kingdom, but the development team at Team Cherry hav designed in excess of 40 undoubtedly epic bosses to stand as gatekeepers to your progress, and more than 200 other standard enemies to impeded your path. The player will need to utilise the Hornet’s expansive acrobatic skillset to slice their way through the deadly obstacles, and to navigate difficult platforming challenges.

The original Hollow Knight found an incredible sweet spot where it was an approachable Soulslite, an exceptional Metroidvania, and a gorgeous piece of art, all at the same time, and Hollow Knight: Silksong looks on track to execute in just the same ways.

Absolum

Developer: Dotemu, Guard Crush Games, Supamonks

I had my head in the sand about Absolum until stumbling upon the game during GamesCom’s Opening Night Live 2025 showcase, and now it’s a game that I can’t stop thinking about. While I didn’t immerse myself in the beat-em-up genre when I was younger, although the collaboration between, Dotemu, Guard Crush Games, and Supamonks, titled Absolum strikes a fascinating chord with me.

Absolum is looking to blend traditional beat-em-up elements with roguelike systems, numerous main and side quests, an expansive world, ripe for exploration, deep storytelling, and a soundtrack composed by some of my absolute favourite composers, including Gareth Coker (Ori and the Blind Forest), Mick Gordon (DOOM 2016), and more. Visually, the game looks stunning, while the action is super engrossing, and I’m frankly appalled that I didn’t know about the game until now.
