Epomaker NEX Pro Review - Slickly Sweet
So I’ve just come from reviewing the Epomaker TH108 Pro keyboard, where, despite its incredible functionality, I was caught off guard by the unit’s weight. Now, I’m getting the second half of the PC gaming experience, the Epomaker NEX Pro mouse, and while the functionality is pretty by the numbers in a range of ways, this is a mouse that is far greater than the sum of its parts.
Let’s begin with form-factor, because it’s perhaps one of the more baffling (but also extremely positive) elements. In this day and age, I’ve gotten quite used to the various peripheral makers shrinking the size of various pieces of hardware. It’s all about reducing the amount of plastic and, consequently, cutting back on a few cents per unit produced. The consequence of this way of thinking is that most mice I’ve used in the last decade have all felt a little bit small, and they won’t quite fit my hand right. Now I would say my hands are pretty average-sized, so we’re not talking about an exceptional case here, but it was refreshing to see a mouse fit the palm of my hand properly – baffling that we’ve actually gone back in this direction, and fantastic to experience again. The ergonomics are at the forefront of the design, and I love the result. The NEX Pro also comes with a very cool charging mount, equipped with RGB lighting that gently pulses behind the scenes. The battery life has been excellent, but when you need to charge the unit back up, you’ll be doing so in style.
Despite its size, the NEX Pro is quite light to hold and skates across your desk or mousepad with ease. As is the norm for a modern gaming mouse, you’ll want to be able to move your cursor in short and sharp time to keep up with the twitch gaming needs of some titles, and so the NEX Pro’s PAW3950 sensor is more than up to the task. There’s a wide range of DPI settings, and the unit even offers an 8kHz high-speed response option. As always, the disclosure: I’m so far from a pro PC gamer that it’s not funny, so I’m not the best use case for the higher-level speeds, as my poor brain can’t keep up, but for the elite players out there, what is on offer is undoubtedly impressive.
For those looking for the plug-and-play experience, the NEX Pro will suit your needs sublimely, but if you’re looking to customise and optimise, then the software that links to the NEX Pro will fulfill all of your needs there too. When connected directly to your system, the NEX Pro possesses a 1000Hz polling rate, but that drops to 125Hz when it is connected via Bluetooth. The rookie PC player like me wasn’t impacted by this, though veteran players may wish to connect via USB to ensure the greatest levels of flow to their gameplay.
With every device Epomaker puts in my hands, I find myself another step closer to embracing the PC gaming lifestyle. The Epomaker NEX Pro mouse has made it that little bit more alluring. The NEX Pro mouse is an exceptional unit, with a great form factor and functionality to fit the needs of all who might use it.
