Bō: Path of the Teal Lotus | Hype Check

With Squid Shock Studios’ Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus now only a few days away, we wanted to touch base with some of our team to see how they’re feeling about the game. We’ve seen a range of media up to this point, from gameplay showcases and trailers, we’ve seen the press releases, and heard the talk, but how are we feeling? That’s where we’re bringing Hype Check into the mix; to get a gauge on what the prospective players are thinking. So here’s how we’re feeling about Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus.

What if Ori and the Blind Forest was a weeb? It’d be this game. As a fellow weeb, I give it a thumbs up.

This looks cute as hell. Like Renee said – it’s like Ori, but with the art style of Okami. I already know I’ll be terrible at it (because I’m bad at platformers but also because this one looks particularly high-speed), but those visuals are so cool that I might legitimately give this one a try!

I’ll admit, I kind of like slower paced stuff when it comes to platforming, but there’s certainly some charm with this one, particularly from the visuals.

I might have to keep an eye on this one once it ships!

Ok, I’ve got something to admit. I’m not a weeb, but I am a bit of an otaku. I actually adore all types of history and folklore, but Japanese folklore is very cool. Okami was amazing, as was Toukiden, Nioh, Sakuna, just to name a few. It’s been a hot minute since I’ve played a platformer and this looks dope. I’d never heard of this before and now I’m excited by it. Wait, am I just a sucker for specific game styles? I guess we’ll never know for sure.

I was completely smitten by Bo when I first saw it’s Kickstarter and I swiftly backed it. I was taken by it’s gorgeous art-style in particular, but it looked like the team had chops in the game design front as well and so it became an obvious pick-up for me. Now we’re just days from release and I’m pretty keen!
