Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn | Hype Check
With A44’s Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn now only a few days away, we wanted to touch base with some of our team to see how they’re feeling about the game. We’ve seen a range of media up to this point, from gameplay showcases and trailers, we’ve seen the press releases, and heard the talk, but how are we feeling? That’s where we’re bringing Hype Check into the mix; to get a gauge on what the prospective players are thinking. So here’s how we’re feeling about Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn.

I played A44’s previous game Ashen and while I am usually not the best person at games, I really enjoyed it. I’m unsure how Flintlock will compare and have downloaded the demo so I can get more of a read on it. Souwhich made me think it looked interesting and would be worth giving it a go.

I have heard nothing but good things about Flintlock following the release of a demo over the past few weeks, but I still know I’m not going to play this game. I’ll think I want to, because it has a hella cool-looking female protagonist and I love her little wolf dragon buddy, but I also know that as soon as I actually try to play, the frustration will kick in. It is so, so rare that I click with any game that describes itself as a Soulslike, and as much as I want to believe Flintlock will be one of those rare special cases, I don’t want to kid myself. That said, it is coming to Game Pass, which makes the chances of me giving it a try skyrocket. I can’t wait to play an hour of this game and then give in to frustration and ragequit.

It takes so little to get me interested in a soulslike. ARPGs are just so damn cool. Watching the trailer for this was very confusing though. The combat looks cool but I don’t feel like it’s got the tone right somehow. None-the-less, this does seem like it could be cool, but I think I might wait to see what the groupthink is before I give it a go.

I have a terrible confession to make: As curious as I’ve always been with the twists on the Action RPG FromSoft pioneered, it’s taken a long, long, long time for me to click with them. So with that, and seeing how many more are out there, I kind of need something special to latch onto if I’m going to try one out.
Which means waiting to see what the reception on this one is before I’d consider checking it out!

I dig the style this game is putting off and the fact it has long-ranged weaponry makes me smile. I don’t usually go in for the whole souls thing but Remnant proved I can be persuaded if it comes with a big ole’ rifle. I feel like this one may be a bit of a word-of-mouth hit and will benefit from Gamepass like Lies of P did.
