Zelda Joins the Season Pass Gang

When it comes to following modern industry trends, it seems that not even the fabled Legend of Zelda franchise is immune. In the last 24 hours, Nintendo announced that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be getting an “Expansion Pass” which will see players who purchase it become recipients of a small trickle of post-release content for Nintendo’s newest epic.

For $30AUD players will get two major content releases. The first which will release sometime in Winter 2017 will include the addition of a Cave of Trials challenge, a new hard mode and a new feature for the in-game map, while the second which will hit at year’s end adds new challenges that will let players enjoy a new dungeon and a new original story. Anyone who makes the purchase will also notice that three new treasure chests will appear in the game’s Great Plateau area. One of these treasure chests will contain a shirt with a Nintendo Switch logo which Link can wear during his adventure, exclusive to the Expansion Pass.

This is not the first time that Nintendo have released a season pass for one of their games, Mario Kart 8 on Wii U was a Nintendo proving ground, but this is the first time that the Legend of Zelda franchise has explored the concept. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild releases in retail stores and on the Nintendo eshop on March 3rd alongside the launch of the Nintendo Switch.
