E3 2018 Predictions – The Rest

With E3 just around the corner, it is once again time for the Player 2 crew to get their crystal balls out of the attic and make some wildly inaccurate predictions as to what will appear at the world’s biggest games show. We have done all of the major conferences and now it is time for the rest of the show to shine, what do we want to see hit the showroom floor?

Safe Bet

CD Projekt are up to funny business, and the teases seem to be aligning with E3 2018. It’s finally time to see what Cyberpunk 2077 is, and i’m tipping Microsoft have thrown quite a bit of cash at CD Projekt to see the game formally unveiled on their stage. Get excited, get hyped and brace yourself for an awesome time when we finally see what the follow up to The Witcher 3 is.

Fairly Likely

Rumours have swirled for almost too long now for this Devil May Cry rumour not to be true. Supposedly initially intended for PSX until something changed last minute, Devil May Cry is supposedly a major piece of the Playstation E3 conference courtesy of Capcom at E3 2018. Will it be a follow up to DMC, Devil May Cry 5 or another franchise reboot? We’ll have to wait and see when and if it’s announced.

Wishful Thinking

So Bethesda is doing what Gearbox won’t and is showing off a Borderlands game… under the name Rage 2! We know Gearbox is working on a new Borderlands, but according to comments from Gearbox head, Randy Pitchford, we won’t be seeing a third core entry of the Borderlands IP at E3 2018. The optimist in me screams “he said Borderlands 3, but it may not be called that!!!!” but I refuse to believe that he’s pulling a David Jaffe on us. I think we’ll need to wait a little bit longer for that hotly anticipated Borderlands goodness

Safe Bet

CD Projekt Rehasve confirmed to be bringing an RPG to E3. It’s probably going to be Cyberpunk 2077 which will look amazing but on the off chance it’s some sort of mobile game I stand ready to salute this amazing troll.

Rockstar will give more details on the amazing beard growing and smelliness mechanics in Red Dead Redemption 2 as well as a 10-minute gameplay demo and it’ll be playable on the main floor. There’ll be a celebration for GTAV reaching the biggest selling entertainment thing ever milestone with GTA Online.

Fairly Likely

Speaking of Take 2, 2K will reveal whatever this ‘anticipated franchise’ sequel is and that it is, in fact, Borderlands 3. Pitchford was just throwing us all off the scent with his previous comments and he comes on the stage shrugging with an eyebrow raised at the camera like some sort of Dreamworks animated movie poster.

100 new Battle Royale games appear out of nowhere. They are all placed in an arena to fight to the death to see which one wins. A small game no one has even heard of reins victorious but is forgotten about a week later because no one can mimic its dance emotes.

Wishful thinking

CD Projekt Red reappear on stage after presenting Cyberpunk 2077 and everything goes dark. A howl in the distance as a full moon rises on the screen behind them which turns blood red and then drips into a pool of text. ‘World of Darkness’ it reads and everyone in the crowd with any semblance of what this means loses their freaking minds. In collaboration with White Wolf, they announce the next RPG they’re working on is a sort of sequel to Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines where players can choose their species and faction in the World of Darkness universe. They don’t show much for this first announcement but it is clear that this game will be perfect.

Safe Bet

Something more than just a tantalising taste of what From Software’s new game ‘Shadows Die Twice’ is all about.

Fairly Likely

Cyberpunk 2077 has been confirmed to appear at E3 2018, but if it’s anything less than a dedicated segment featuring cutscene, gameplay AND behind-the-scenes footage, I’m going to be disappointed.

Wishful Thinking

It’s been literal years since Capcom teased us with the possibility of a Resident Evil 2 remake. Don’t make us beg!

Safe Bet

Viva El Presidente! My favourite Carribean dictator is already confirmed to be returning to my PC in 2018 but we still don’t know exactly when. This is the sort of game that could very well turn up at E3 and say “Hey check it out, we are coming out next week!” Whatever the release date ends up being, you can bet your bottom dollar I’ll be there day one.

Fairly Likely

THQ Nordic is going to be spruiking Darksiders 3 for all they are worth. Up until this point the THQ revival has played it pretty safe but with Darksiders 3 they are stepping into the highly anticipated AAA realm and in my mind, they need to nail it. Expect to see hands-on demos and a whole bunch of new footage.

Wishful Thinking

Speaking of THQ Nordic, The bring out the big sledgehammer for brand new Red Faction announcement. Open world, destructible buildings, plenty of C4 and a Sledge the size of me. I feel the need, the need for complete and utter wanton destruction and Red Faction does that like no other franchise out there.

Safe Bet

Sega will announce the Yakuza 3,4 and 5 remasters for the West starting in early 2019. Capcom will show off some Monster Hunter World DLC and Atlus will be pushing the Persona Dancing series.

Fairly Likely

Xseed will announce Trails of Cold Steel 3, alongside the PS4 versions of the first two games in the series. CD Projekt Red will reveal more details about Cyberpunk 2077

Wishful Thinking

A new Jet Grind Radio, Skies of Arcadia Remastered and a localised version of Yakuza Ishin and are all on the way from Sega. Capcom announces a follow-up to Dragons Dogma and Xseed announce the entire Trails series (including the Crossbell Saga) are coming to the Switch in their enhanced forms.

Safe Bet

CD Projekt Red has been confirmed to be attending E3 this year with a new game.  Since we have not heard of any new games being developed by the team, and the fact that they have been developing it for 5 years, we can safely assume this will be for Cyberpunk 2077.  With rumours of an early 2019 release date, E3 will be the best place to finally show us what they have been working on and how the mechanics of the game will work.

Fairly Likely

“Something Something Battle Royale”.  With the success of Fortnite and PUBG, you can bet there is someone wanting to jump on the bandwagon.  Who does it and whether it is a totally new IP or based off an existing one is anyone’s guess, but with the rumours of more companies investigating the battle royale craze I’m sure we will see something.

Wishful Thinking

Borderlands 3 has been in development for a while and we know Randy Pitchford has been putting in some mocap work for it.  I was a massive fan of Borderlands 2, right down to owning the Vita port (which I didn’t find too bad really) and am hoping we finally get to see where the franchise is taking players next.  While I don’t think it is going to be ready for release this year I am hoping to see something, anything to wet my appetite.
