Horns up for Skylanders Academy

Horns up for Skylanders Academy

Activision has announced that they will be producing a TV series based on the immensely popular Skylanders toys-to-life franchise called Skylanders Academy. While that isn’t exactly super news, after all, it is hardly the first video game series turned cartoon serial, the big story is the talent they have involved. Activision has managed to get an amazing list of well-known names to provide voices. A list that includes an Oscar-winning actress, a Police Academy veteran and the lead singer from the biggest heavy metal band on the planet.

Produced under the supervision of showrunner Eric Rogers (“Futurama”), “Skylanders Academy” features the voices of Justin Long (“Alvin and the Chipmunks,” “Ask Me Anything”) as Spyro, Ashley Tisdale (“Phineas and Ferb,” “High School Musical”) as Stealth Elf, Jonathan Banks (“Breaking Bad,” “Better Call Saul”) as Eruptor and Norm MacDonald (“Saturday Night Live”) as Glumshanks. Additional voice talent includes The Diamond Minecart, Susan Sarandon, Daniel Wu, Parker Posey,  Catherine O’Hara, Bobcat Goldthwait, Chris Diamantopoulos, Jonny Rees, Harland Williams, Richard Horvitz and James Hetfield.

Yes, Metallica James Hetfield. Crazy right? Anyway my personal excitement aside it is clear that Activision Blizzard is taking this cartoon seriously and are putting some serious coin into its production so hopefully the final result is something great for the whole family (just like the game franchise is.)

Skylanders Academy will appear on Netflix in the Australian Spring.
