The First Descendant | Hype Check
With Nexon’s The First Descendant now only a few days away, we wanted to touch base with some of our team to see how they’re feeling about the game. We’ve seen a range of media up to this point, from gameplay showcases and trailers, we’ve seen the press releases, and heard the talk, but how are we feeling? That’s where we’re bringing Hype Check into the mix; to get a gauge on what the prospective players are thinking. So here’s how we’re feeling about The First Descendant.
Jess Zammit
Ahh, another visually stunning looter-shooter. Not my thing, but I sure hope it doesn’t go the way of the last few games in the genre over the past year or so – it hasn’t been a great time for these games, so we’ll see how this one goes. Very cinematic trailer, though (which, historically, is maybe not a great sign for the game itself, so again… we’ll see.)

“A third-person looter shooter”. I’m not gonna lie, but this fragment is pretty much the turn-off of turn-offs when it comes to gaming for me. The kinds of games where you’re expected to be at it constantly grinding your way to whatever. Yeah, nah.

Rob has the right of it. I find with a lot of looter shooters, especially ones with in app purchases they get very grindy. I don’t need more games as a service, I’ve got enough vying for my time as is. If I wanted to fill this niche, I’d probably just rather play Destiny 2. Heard the new expansion is good. I’ll watch to see if this is amazing though, I’m always open to being surprised.

Look I am fairly warm on this one having played a bunch of the game during the beta. It shows promise and frankly, there isn’t much out there at the moment to compete with Destiny. I don’t know if it will have the legs to compete with that beast (and Warframe) but I am willing to play more to find out.

I’m intrigued but not yet crazy about this one. What I will lead off with those is that I do love a looter shooter, and in the absence of Borderlands and The Division right now, if a good one emerges, I’m ripe for the picking. I’ve seen a few trailers and the game has presented really well, although, i’m yet to have seen much gameplay. I’m hopeful, and I trust Matt’s judgment who has been fairly optimistic up until this stage. I’m keen to check it out.
