The Player 2 PixelCast 106
It’s felt like an age, but we’re finally starting to look at a good flow of big, (hopefully) high quality game releases in 2023. We’ve had some pretty stellar remakes to kick off the first quarter, and it’s looking like we’re only a month or two off from a series of truly original releases, or at least big sequels, we suppose. Can you believe that it’s been almost seven years since the last mainline Final Fantasy? Starfield it turning out to be more than vaporware, the Switch is getting what may well prove its magnum opus, and you can absolutely bank on Spiderman 2 because Insomniac may be the last big-budget studio in existence that is well enough managed to release quality games at a decent clip.
It’s perhaps the remakes that are of interest to us this, episodes, though. Specifically, the time from which we came. Last year, we took a couple of episodes to look back at key years from the ’90s, and this episode marks this year’s first look back at key moments in the ’00s. The specific year in question? 2001. And – boy howdy – there were some damn fine games released during that year. More than Tim released, with both Ken and Rob forcing him to get his Google on at points.
