PlayStation Portal Receives February Release Date

It’s pretty well documented that I have a love for all things remote play. I utlise the feature regularly as I watch my beloved Geelong Football Club, or some late-night Cricket World Cup action. Being able to offer the TV to my wife to watch something that perhaps is not of interest to me, but by flicking over to remote play on my BackBone One, I can keep going, whilst still being present in the space.

The Backbone One has some flaws though, especially in how it is incapable of properly emulating the touchpad and haptic elements of the PS5, and so I’d been longing for an option that would unlock those features, and still allow me to use my phone when required without either breaking the immersion, or even my connection to the console. Enter the PlayStation Portal. Announced a few months ago, the PlayStation Portal addresses all the flaws of the current best-in-class option, and now we know when we can get our hands on it.

Launching in many other larger markets this week, Aussies have a longer-than-ideal wait to get their hands on the Portal, however, the PlayStation Portal will launch in Australia on February 2, 2024, for the hefty, but not wallet-destroying price of $329.95.

From PlayStation’s own press releases, “PlayStation Portal remote player brings the PS5 experience to the palm of your hand. It includes the key features of the DualSense wireless controller, including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. The vibrant 8-inch LCD screen is capable of 1080p resolution at 60fps, providing a high-definition visual experience that’s expected from the high-quality games created by world-class developers.”

Preorders are open now.
