Mario Vs Donkey Kong | Hype Check
With Mario Vs Donkey Kong now only a few weeks away, we wanted to touch base with some of our team to see how they’re feeling about the game. We’ve seen a range of media up to this point, from gameplay showcases and trailers, we’ve seen the press releases, and heard the talk, but how are we feeling? That’s where we’re bringing Hype Check into the mix; to get a gauge on what the prospective players are thinking. So here’s how we’re feeling about Mario Vs Donkey Kong.

I’m not a massive puzzle game person, but the OG Mario vs. Donkey Kong was one I got quite a bit out of back in ye olde days when a Game Boy Advance was my idea of gaming on the go. So seeing it get a modern spruce up is quite exciting.
The original was structured perfectly for portable play, and so it’s going to be interesting to see if the remake not only lives up to the original, but fits into both being a puzzler when on the go, but also when sitting in front of the big screen.

I am a big puzzle person, but when I tried playing Mario vs Donkey kong on the DS I found I bounced off hard. I think it’s just not my type of puzzle, as they can be quite different. As I know I’m not a fan, I’m not hyped for it, but happy for those who are.

I’m not a big puzzle game fan and so at face value, Mario Vs Donkey Kong shouldn’t speak to me a great deal, but I have belief in Nintendo, largely fuelled by Nintendo’s pedigree, but also the fact that Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, another puzzle-platformer, is one of my favourite games of the last decade, and I’m sure it wasn’t a fluke (though I keep longing for a sequel). Mario Vs Donkey Kong is far from my most anticipated, but I’m still anticipating a good time.

I love puzzle games, and I love Nintendo’s past swings at the genre, so I’m super excited to finally check this one out for this first time. I’m not sure how I missed it on its original release, really, but it’s fine – the time to fix that is now. I’ve wanted something to fill the Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker-shaped hole in my heart for years now, and I’ll happily take this while I wait. I’m also particularly keen on the co-op element – solving these kinds of puzzles as a team is always more fun!

This seems ok. I love puzzle games but I like them to be weirder now. I played the original and wasn’t really a fan, and whilst Nintendo do some interesting games I don’t think this is for me. I’ll probably stick to games like Baba is You and Manifold Garden. There’s also just so many Mario and Donkey Kong games that I’m getting a bit bored. The irony is, I might be more interested if this wasn’t full of Nintendo property, but here we are.
