Broken Roads | Hype Check
With Drop Bear Bytes’ Broken Roads now only a few days away, we wanted to touch base with some of our team to see how they’re feeling about the game. We’ve seen a range of media up to this point, from gameplay showcases and trailers, we’ve seen the press releases, and heard the talk, but how are we feeling? That’s where we’re bringing Hype Check into the mix; to get a gauge on what the prospective players are thinking. So here’s how we’re feeling about Broken Roads.

Bogan Fallout… I mean that idea alone deserves hype. I am worried about the amount of delays and problems the devs have had leading up to release though and it feels like a really ambitious title for a small studio. But if all things line up, this could be a real winner and that is the fair dinkum truth.

I’ve never been a big Fallout guy, top-down CRPGs haven’t been my forte either, but being developed by Aussies and set in Western Australia certainly enhances my interest levels in Broken Roads. The team has been extremely forthcoming with details over the years, and I’ve been impressed by the various hands-on opportunities that I’ve had at PAX and via Steam Next Fest over the years. This game looks ripe to explode – I’m hoping that I’m into it.

I’m cautiously optimistic about Broken roads. The tactical element of the game originally deterred me from the game but as I’ve seen more, I’ve become rather interested. I probably won’t pick it up right away and may have to give a demo a go first to make sure the tactical part doesn’t outweigh my enjoyment of the other aspects of it. Fingers crossed.

If you have been following my work on Player2 over the years you would see that I have been all over Broken Roads throughout its development. While there has only been the short demo, I have been impressed by what I have seen and heard about the game. It is one of my most anticipated games for this year. My hype is real, I just hope Broken Roads lives up to it.

There have been so many “roads” games over the last 2 months I forgot which game this was. I went back to Steam to double check my work and watched the trailer and was positively chuffed to see this one. I think my compatriots were right when they said this looks like bogan Fallout. But you know what? That sounds rad as hell. Bogan Harvest Moon (Dinkum) was great and this looks like a real lark.

I’m excited for Broken Roads…..to hit the Switch eventually. A potato PC and an aversion to sitting at a desk, alongside just not gelling with this style of game on a console mean I’ll be all over this Aussie post-apocalyptic adventure when I can put the hours into it while lying in bed. Here’s hoping the long road the developers have taken to launch pays off as it’s come quite a long way since I saw it at PAX AUS all those years ago.
