No Rest For The Wicked | Hype Check
With Moon Studios’ No Rest For The Wicked now only a few weeks away, we wanted to touch base with some of our team to see how they’re feeling about the game. We’ve seen a range of media up to this point, from gameplay showcases and trailers, we’ve seen the press releases, and heard the talk, but how are we feeling? That’s where we’re bringing Hype Check into the mix; to get a gauge on what the prospective players are thinking. So here’s how we’re feeling about No Rest For The Wicked.

From all reports, No Rest for the Wicked is quite the departure for Moon Studios. Firstly it is going into early access which is something they haven’t done before and secondly, it isn’t a Metroidvania title, the genre they made their name with. Reportedly something of a cross between Diablo and a Souls title, it is an interesting idea but one that may need some time in early access to flesh out. I will be watching with interest, but I don’t think it is going to be a must-buy at EA launch.

While it’s not a silky smooth platformer like Ori (sidenote: how I hope and dream that it comes to PlayStation!), I’m still a big fan of ARPGs and so No Rest For The Wicked ticks the box for me in that regard. I’m not crazy about the game trending towards the side of the Soulslike in terms of its difficulty, but it doesnt look insurmountable, and so I’m keen. I’m definitely not keen on playing on PC though, so with the game trapped there whilst its in its Early Access phase means that I’m simply going to have to suspend my excitement for (presumably) another 12 months or more.

All I’ve really seen of No Rest For The Wicked is the theatrical trailer and even the screenshots on the steam page are from the trailer itself. It’s an Early Access title, but it will remain to be seen if it’ll actually be interesting. The small bits of gameplay I’ve seen seemed very souls-like with a bit of climbing. As of right now, I have no real interest but that may change as we see more of how the game actually plays and previews.

I’ll admit, I’ve not really been watching this one – and though there isn’t much to go on from what’s been shown, I do think there’s some promise. I do think it’s one I’d be willing to check out once it’s out of Early Access – as much as I can appreciate the process, I personally like to wait to see how a game looks once it’s hit its 1.0 release, if only because I don’t have infinite time to check up on stuff in development. Call me curious, but patient to see how it all fares out though.

This popped up on my radar about a month ago and I’ve been slowly hyping myself up for it ever since. As an Action RPG fan, No Rest for the Wicked looks like a “meatier” take on the genre which is a breath of fresh air to me. With elements of Dark Souls / Monster Hunter combat mixed with a painstakingly crafted world to explore, unique boss mechanics to die to, and the high level of detail on display, it all seems to create this cohesive experience which I can’t wait to dive into. The only reservations I have are around the “Early Access” release of the game, and the possible lack of content available at launch. Also, Cage the Elephant doesn’t feature in this game and that means it’s a 0/10 for me.

The ads for this game have been popping up all over my socials in the past few weeks. So the hype machine is definitely ramping up ahead of early access release. And because I have not invested much of myself into an action RPG since the early days of Diablo 3, this has caught my attention. The main thing catching my eye at the moment is that the combat looks and feels weighty and substantial. Also any game from Moon Studios is worth paying attention to.
