HyperX Alloy FPS Pro

HyperX Alloy FPS Pro

Mechanical Keyboard

$140 Approx

Keyboards are a personal taste type of thing. Some like a nice wide keyboard with soft keys, some like something a bit smaller. Some people swear by the clacky clack of a Mechanical keyboard and others are more than fine with a membrane-based board. This makes reviewing a keyboard tough as personal feelings get in the way of the review.

Why am I saying this I hear you ask? Well because, to put it simply, the HyperX Alloy FPS Pro is not for me. It is a keyboard that is designed for someone else. That doesn’t take away from the quality of the keyboard, in fact, the Alloy FPS Pro has perhaps the highest build quality I have ever seen in a keyboard, no it just means that I am not the target market and that’s fine. Let me see if I can explain.

HyperX Alloy FPS Pro

Being a writer, I spend a lot of time with my keyboard typing. For many hours each day, I am tapping away. I have also been cursed with Gorilla sized mitts for hands which means I need a nice big keyboard to comfortably type on. As it stands everything is a little too compact on the FPS pro to make this a comfortable keyboard to be used in this manner. I am typing this review on it and it seems I am making an error every second word which, for a trained touch typist is galling, to say the least. The other downside to using the FPS Pro as an everyday keyboard is the fact it has no number pad, which after years of training and, is frustrating.

But like I said this is a keyboard with a specific purpose in mind and that purpose is gaming. Boy oh boy, does it do this well. Even my fat fingers found great comfort in playing with this little beauty. I always feel that twitch FPS shooters are the best games to test keyboards with, so I spent a good bit of time with Doom and Shadow Warrior 2 and I must say I was impressed. Quick response time, comfortable resting and a satisfying tactile response was the order of the day. HyperX is quickly gaining a well-earned reputation for high quality, reasonably priced gaming accessories and the Alloy FPS pro is no exception. This is a sturdy well put together piece of equipment that seems like it could be chucked in a backpack with little fear of damage.

Speaking of chucking it in a backpack, this is perfect keyboard for gaming on the go. Let’s face it, most Laptop keyboards are rubbish, so this makes the Alloy FPS Pro the perfect keyboard to throw in your travel bag. Just because you are on the road, you shouldn’t have to put up with shoddy equipment right? The lack of a keypad also improves the portability. There is even a detachable, braided USB cord, so it really was designed with gaming on the go in mind.

HyperX Alloy FPS Pro

The HyperX Alloy FPS Pro is a well-built keyboard that is sure to satisfy folks that want a dedicated gaming keyboard or those that like to game on the go. It is not a keyboard for a person that doesn’t want the hassle of two keyboards, an all-rounder it is not. But if you need a keyboard for the express purpose of slaying demons and destroying robots, the HyperX Alloy FPS Pro is one of the best options out there, for both price and quality.
